Not Sure About Your Passion? Start with What You’re Good At.

When it comes to career choices, we often think passion should lead the way. But what if you’re unsure about your passion? The key might lie in recognising and working with your strengths first.
Start with Strengths, Not Passion
In my experience, very few people have a clear vision of their career path from a young age. Some, like my children’s mother or a friend’s son-in-law, knew from a young age what they wanted to do. But these stories are exceptions rather than the rule.
For most people, the journey to a fulfilling career starts by understanding what they’re good at, not necessarily what they’re passionate about. When you focus on your strengths, you create opportunities for growth, recognition, and ultimately passion.
The Power of Mastery
Being good at something tends to encourage repetition and development. Over time, this can create a sense of fulfilment and drive us towards mastery. Mastery, in turn, often leads to passion. By becoming aware of your strengths, you take the first step in building a rewarding career.
How to Discover Your Passion
If you’re still unsure about your passion, focus on your strengths. Use them as a guide for making career decisions. With time, as you excel in your chosen field, you may find that passion naturally follows.
